Platt Park New Construction - Accessory Dwelling Unit
This new construction accessory dwelling unit (ADU) was built as a short term rental property with a two car garage, one side fit for a sprinter van. While ADUs are becoming more popular throughout Denver, the zoning code has not quite caught up with them. This project was envisioned for a site where the zoning did not provide for ADUs to be built. We along with the homeowner went through Denver’s variance process to have this outlier approved. The apartment is a one-bedroom unit, including a full kitchen, living room and bathroom. One side of the garage is accessible to the renter of the ADU while the other is private for the homeowner, built extra-tall to accommodate their outfitted camper van. The unit has a private entrance both from the exterior as well as from the private garage space. This project was built with sustainability and efficiency as a top priority with high efficiency materials and modern systems - even the shower can be controlled with your smart phone!
