How Does Interior Design Fit In Cult Creative's Service Offerings?

There can be a lot of confusion around a project in regard to which professionals you should hire.  Not just in regard to various engineering reports, contractors, landscape designers, etc, but also when it comes to what is happening inside your home.  Clients often ask us “Do I need to hire a designer as well as an architect?”  “Is an architectural designer the same as an architect?” and “Where does an interior designer fit into all of this?”  We’re here to help.

First things first - a designer is not an Architect, but an Architect should be a designer.

We have come across folks who hired an Architect to create drawings for their home, and then another designer who created the interior layout, looked at functionality, or picked exterior materials.  All of these are tasks that should be done by your Architect.  If your Architect is not considering how each space within your home connects, what the functionality of those spaces will be like and your overall experience, they are only doing half the job.  It may be the case that they are licensed, but actually just draft what you ask them to, rather than creating a design for your specific needs.  Similarly, if your Architect isn’t working with you to select exterior cladding materials, design window and door openings, and work through the wall and roof assemblies of your home, they are missing some key components of what defines buildings and a homes’ character.

Interior Design on the other hand, may or may not be provided by an Architect.  Interior Design includes the items within your home which are aesthetic in nature, don’t inherently define rooms, and of which there are often infinite choices. These items tend to include finishes such as flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures, cabinets, countertops, wallcoverings and lighting.

If you’re familiar with our approach to design, then you know that Cult Creative prides ourselves on how well we know our clients and how we integrate their unique personalities and lifestyles into our designs.  This effort means so much to us because we believe that the spaces we live in inform our wellbeing, influence our state of mind, and enhance our relationships.  So, it would make sense that the design of those spaces doesn’t stop at doors, windows and drywall, but gets down to faucets, paint colors, and cabinet hardware.  We love designing each detail to create a unique experience for our homeowners that makes their home feel just right for them.

Interiors selections can be overwhelming for a lot of homeowners because there are just so many choices.  It’s hard to know what is cost-effective but not losing out on quality versus what is money spent on something that will need to be replaced in a year.  Working with Cult Creative as your guide, together we create a plan of action that can meet your budget goals and focus those funds on the areas of highest impact.  Additionally, by creating an overall direction and then working to select pieces that support that vision, we ensure that the final product looks like a cohesive haven for you and your loved ones.
