Our Design Process | Creating Alongside Our Clients Their Dream Home

We get asked a lot about our process in working with clients. While the field of architecture has a defined project delivery process, over the years we’ve refined our approach to allow us to dive deep to learn about a family’s unique culture while simultaneously providing professional recommendations, and creating alongside our clients a home that is all their own.

  1. As-Built Documentation and Programming | This phase allows us to explore what exists, both in the built environment and in a client’s lifestyle. Why did you reach out? What are you looking for? What’s not working? What is working that we should keep?

  2. Concept Design | We approach the design problem as individuals first, then come together to compare thoughts and ideas, synthesizing design ideas down to three distinct options. The options typically include the most obvious solutions, as well as some really unique suggestions intended to surprise and delight.  We review the options with our clients to see what resonates best with them and what deserves further exploration.

  3. Construction and Documentation | Everything from building science to interior design, this phase is where we detail out the specific instructions for building a home.  You’ve heard it said, “The Devil is in the details” and it’s never truer than in design and architecture.  From weather barriers and sealants, to drawing up the specifics of a handrail, we want to be sure your builder has everything they need to create a magnificent home.

  4. Bid + Permit | Enough said.

  5. Construction Administration | Here’s where we dot every I and cross every T. We work directly with builders to ensure every detail is perfect, approach issues discovered in the field, and act as the owner’s advocate to ensure the building you get is the one we’ve been planning together since day 1.
